Response Summary
Beginning November 2025, International Bird Rescue has been responding to multiple oil incidents in Southern California. Most of the affected birds are Western Grebes encountering naturally occurring oil seeps, and storms can spread the oil farther, putting even more birds at risk.
Our dedicated staff and volunteers continue to wash newly admitted birds and provide care for those with secondary injuries, ensuring they are ready to return safely to the wild. This work is a reminder that staying prepared for emergencies never stops.
It is important to get birds into care quickly so we have the best chance to help them. The longer the birds take to be discovered and rescued, the worse their chances of a full recovery.
