Dear Bird Lovers,
Drum roll…And the International Bird Rescue 2020 Bird Patient of the Year is…the Black-crowned-Night-Heron!
Out of 5 other bird patients, the Heron amassed the highest voting numbers. This young orphaned Black-crowned Night-Heron fell from its nest in Wilmington, CA. It was rescued and delivered to our Los Angeles wildlife center.
Each year, between both California wildlife centers, Bird Rescue cares for hundreds of orphaned herons and egrets. With loving care, it takes a lot of human effort to raise these spirited birds – including hand feeding, regular check-ups, and plenty of cleaning, but seeing these young birds return to the wild makes all the hard work worthwhile.
Thanks to all the 225+ voters who cast their ballots. And kudos to the staff and volunteers whose efforts of kindness and support give all our waterbird patients a second chance.
With best wishes for a safer new year,
Team International Bird Rescue
