Job: Facilities and Safety Coordinator

Employment Status: Full-time, Exempt

Location: Los Angeles Wildlife Center, San Pedro, CA

Salary: $18.00 – $27.00 per hour

Schedule: 8-hour shifts

Reports to: Wildlife Center Manager

About the Position

We are seeking a creative and dedicated individual to join our team as the Facility and Safety Coordinator for our San Pedro wildlife center. The role involves general maintenance, repairs, and development of safety standards and programs to ensure the facility’s smooth operation. No specific training or certification is required for this position. We are looking for someone who can work independently, is passionate about learning new skills, and willing to think outside the box.

General Responsibilities

  • Performing basic maintenance and upkeep of facility grounds, animal enclosures, and building including aspects related to general plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems
  • Coordinate and oversee work of outside vendors for larger construction projects, preventative maintenance routines, and large scale repairs of major systems
  • Develop, implement, and uphold safety standards within the facility
  • Maintain site safety plans and procedures, conduct regular safety inspections, yearly safety drills, and address safety concerns within the facility promptly
  • Occasional weekend work, overtime, special events, and emergency response

Basic Requirements

  • The employee may be required to climb ladders while carrying supplies, equipment, and tools
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Work in physically demanding and changing environments of indoor, outdoor and field situations conducting strenuous activities including lifting, bending, stooping, kneeling, walking and remaining on feet for long hours
  • Must have the ability to safely operate and handle various tools (i.e. power tools)
  • Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license and have a vehicle

Work Environment

This position involves work in an animal care facility with exposure to odors, noise, wild birds, animal waste, and potentially hazardous materials. Protective clothing and training will be provided when required.

International Bird Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that specializes in the rescue and rehabilitation of sick, injured, and contaminated aquatic birds. Our two wildlife centers in CA treat 3,000-6,000 patients per year.
