Eight Double-crested Cormorants, who arrived in our care as a mix of eggs and newly hatched chicks, have officially been raised to be wild birds and released back to nature.
Their journey spanned nearly three months, beginning with feedings every 30 minutes from the moment they hatched. Staff and interns provided intensive care while taking precautions to prevent human bonding, wearing masks and cloaks during feedings. As the chicks grew, they progressed together: developing waterproof feathers, socializing with other species they’ll encounter in the wild, and mastering the art of diving for fish. Each milestone brought them closer to independence.
Their release marks a major accomplishment for our team, and we are proud to share this incredible moment with everyone who has supported them from the very beginning.
