This February, we’re bringing back the iconic Pelican Love cards for you to give to your special someone. Whether you are lovebirds, or you just love birds, these handwritten cards are the perfect Valentine’s Day gift.

When you make a $25 donation, we will send a handwritten Valentine card featuring the Pelican Love artwork to the recipient of your choice. These Valentines are a thoughtful way to show someone you care – while giving back to our pelican and other waterbird patients. Order by 4:00 PM PST on February 9 to ensure the card is delivered by February 14.

Artwork by Jay Holcomb, former Executive Director for International Bird Rescue

This design, crafted by former Executive Director Jay Holcomb during the Deepwater Horizon Spill in 2010, serves as a powerful symbol of our enduring commitment to rehabilitating Brown Pelicans, reflecting our long-time history of care and conservation.

“I drew a red heart with a pelican in front of it on a 4×8 card and placed it right above my computer so I could see it throughout the day,” Jay once said. “This very simple picture reminded me to let go and focus on the outcome I had envisioned, which was their welfare.”  Read more about Jay’s inspiration, in his words.

The Brown Pelican, once endangered due to factors including pesticide use, has been a focal point of conservation initiatives. Jay’s artwork serves as a visual representation of the love and responsibility we bear for the natural world, emphasizing the importance of rehabilitating species like the Brown Pelican for future generations.
